The Speedways - Kisses Are History

As I'm writing this I can't help thinking that Josh over at Faster And Louder will be writing something so much better. As you may have noticed, his blog was the inspiration for Just Some Punk Songs back at the end of 2013 and I've always been slightly envious that his updates are proper review whilst mine are just a few scrambled thoughts strung together with links and a video. But even though I'm sure he'll love today's song and will no doubt write something much better about it, the more people sharing great music the better so....

Today's song. It's the new single by Nottingham band The Speedways (https://www.facebook.com/JustAnotherRegularSummer/). It's blazing a trail for their new album Radio Sounds which will be out in May. They featured on here last year courtesy of a guest review by Wayne Elliott (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2019/06/the-speedways-they-dont-know-review-and.html) but this is the first time I've written about them. They're a power pop band inspired by the likes of Paul Collins, Cheap Trick, Exploding Hearts, Ronettes etc. They line up thus; Vocals + Rhythm & Lead guitars, keyboard - Matt Julian, Rhythm & Lead guitars + backing Vocals - Mauro Venegas, Bass Guitar - Adrian Alfonso and Drums - Kris Hood. Don't expect the normal noisy garage/post-punk sound that I usually post, today you're getting something dreamy, heartfelt and very melodious. You won't want to jump around, you'll want to to chill out and wonder when did songs like this stop getting into the Top 10. If the new album is as good as their debut (Just Another Regular Summer) then we're in for a treat. You can check out their music here : https://thespeedways.bandcamp.com/

One of the tracks on a double A side release from Snap Records and Hurrah Musica, this is a tale of lost love and regret, a story we're all probably familiar with. It's called Kisses Are History...

Oh,oh I should have been the one to make you
I should have been the one to take you all the world around
Oh,oh I should have been the one you're updating
I shouldn't be the one who's left waiting out of mind and out of sight

Even though we can't decide we twist the knife around inside
Once you were a mystery but now your kisses are history
and if all this was meant to be then so much for love

Oh,oh I should have been the one to save you
I should have been the one who gave you all the love around
Oh,oh I should have been the one to spell you
I should have been the one to tell you that everything is gonna be alright

Even though we can't decide we twist the knife around inside
Once you were a mystery but now your kisses are history
and if all this was meant to be then so much for love
