Chinese Junk - Electric Chair

Back in March, I posted a song (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2023/03/chinese-junk-plastic-surgery-accident.html) by trash luvin' Orpington trio Chinese Junk (https://www.facebook.com/chinesejunkband) and told you it would be on an upcoming album via Big Neck Records titled Fly Spray.

I think it's well worthwhile getting the band back on here now that the album is out. Available on vinyl and digital download, it's a whole bunch of budget rock fun. 14 tracks of "snot and sarcasm" it's the sound of a band that would have graced Rip Off Records back in the day. Energy and enthusiasm are front and centre. Party on down to Bandcamp and check it out...  https://bigneckrecords1.bandcamp.com/album/chinese-junk-fly-spray

This is the opening track, it's dumb, it's fun, it's called Electric Chair...

I don't wanna wanna say goodbye
I just wanna wanna see you fry
I wanna watch you shit your socks
I wanna wanna watch your eyeballs pop

I want you baby I want you
I want you in the electric chair

Eat your burger and eat your fries
It's gonna be your last meal alive
You're gonna pay for the things you do
Turn your body into super glue
Electric chair yeah yeah

Sex Mex - We'll Be Gone

 "Snitches, bitches, druggies and abusers

That's ok, cause one day, they'll be gone..."

Today's song is one that's been rattling around in my head for a couple of week's now. Maybe you've already heard it, if not you should take a listen.

It's by Sex Mex (https://sexmexsux.com/) who are from San Antonio, Texas, and who seem to have been pretty prolific of late. I don't know much about them so rather that write some stuff to pad out this post I'll instead post a clip of them performing live in what appears to be a local bar/shed combo! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fT0zAiuPNBo

Their latest release is an ep titled We're A Happy Family which is 4 tracks of quirky synth punk and it's available as a name your price download here : https://sexmexsux.bandcamp.com/album/were-a-happy-family

This is the closing track and it's wonderful. I'd recommend you listen to the Bandcamp link as it's got a better sound quality than the Youtube clip you'll find below. It's called We'll Be Gone...

Pleasants - Girl Like You

A fun cover version today from a 'band' that've featured a couple of times on the show but who're making their first (hopefully of many) appearances on here.

Pleasants are a "cheap 'n' cheerful rocanrol" (one man) band from Perth (yeah, another one to come off the Aussie punk rock conveyor belt). The brainchild of Al Uminium (aka Alex Patching who's also in Aborted Tortoise and Ghoulies), this cover follows on from last October's Demo ep and is available name your price on Bandcamp. https://pleasants77.bandcamp.com/track/girl-like-you

Originally a Number 1 UK hit single by The Troggs, this scuffs things up a little, adds a touch of synth and is really rather endearing. It's called Girl Like You...

The Control Freaks - Gonna Be A Riot

Something trashy and lots of fun today as The Control Freaks (https://www.facebook.com/ControlFreaksSF) return with an outrider for their highly anticipated 3rd album, Get Some Help.

The latest excellent project from the legendary Greg Lowery (Rip Off Records, Supercharger, The Rip Offs, Zodiac Killers etc), The Control Freaks hail from San Francisco and play vibrant, simplistic but extremely moresome garage punk. Imagine 50's b-movie sci fi flicks filmed in technicolour with a low budget but plenty of juvenile talent and enthusiasm and you'll hopefully get the vibe given off by these guys.

As is becoming a regular occurrence, bassist/vocalist Greg's been changing the line up so this time around female vocals (and guitar) come courtesy of Amy Munoz whilst Rob Liebsch takes over on drums). Rob Vastano remains on guitar. The album's out on 30th September on vinyl, cd & digital and you can pre order it here :  https://thecontrolfreaksband.bandcamp.com/album/get-some-help-2

With a video that reminds me a little of the cover to the Rip Offs' classic Got A Record album, this is Gonna Be A Riot...

The Gobs - Get A Dog (That Can Kill Me If It Wants To)

Another band I know nothing about today other than that they're from Olympia, Washington and they've released 3 very decent demo eps so far in 2021. They're called The Gobs and they play lo-fi synth punk which may remind you a little of The Spits.

With the first two demos being called demo 1 and demo 2, I'm not going to award any prizes to those of you who guess the title of the third ep. What I am going to do is point you in the direction of some rather cool music >>>>>>>>>>> https://thegobs.bandcamp.com/

This time around proceedings kick off in enjoyably frantic fashion with a futuristically fantastic track titled 2083 AD. I've no idea what they're singing about but who cares, I'm just having fun jumping around to music that reminds me of Buck Biloxi and Kool & The Gang Bangers.

It's similar fare on the next 2 tracks with my highlight being this beauty. It's called Get A Dog (That Can Kill Me If It Wants To)...

Liquids - You Might Think

A quick glance through the Just Some Punk Songs archives reveals that Indiana punk outfit Liquids (the brainchild of the very talented Mat Williams) have featured on here 4 times so far (or 5 if you count the track I included in the Top 20 Devo-Core songs list I posted in 2017). I've previously described their songs as "lo fi diy hardcore garage stompers" and compared them to everyone from Devo to The Buzzcocks, Dickies and The Spits. Hopefully you're familiar with them by now but if not and you want to check out some "fuzzy pop nuggets with a crunchy centre and hooks aplenty" then head this way... https://liquids1.bandcamp.com/

They're back today with a very cool cover. It's a top notch version of a song that was a hit in 1984 for The Cars (and was on their Heartbeat City album). This time around it's one of the highlights on an album titled Paul Henry's Benefit Compilation. It's "a comp to help raise funds for a new roof that Paul Henrys DESPERATELY needs. Paul Henry's Art Gallery is a staple to the community in Northwest Indiana and has been one of the most important spaces to NWI punk for the last 5 years." 26 tracks of killer punk including music from the likes of CCTV, Abi Ooze, Attestor, Big Zit and many more. It's available on cassette and digital download from Upset Condition :   https://upsetconditiontapes.bandcamp.com/album/paul-henrys-benefit-compilation

I love the vocals on this, it's called You Might Think...
