Lowest Priority - Not just boys fun

"Toxic masculinity is ugly, our shows aren't your tough guy contest straight the the fuck up u came to see the wrong band if ur mindset is--"

Lowest Priority are from Seattle, Washington and tag themselves as both Straight Edge Grrls and Pink Bow Bitches. The Grrls in question are Kristin, Elysa, Maya and Luna. If you're a fan of raging hardcore, feminist punk then you should give them a listen.

2014 saw them release the Golden And Violet Demo, it's aptly described on their Bandcamp page as pissed off teen girl yelling. By September of this year they were back, equally as angry, with an ep titled Demo 2016. It's 4 hard hitting tracks (including a re vamped version of Golden & Violent) that deal with violence against women and empowering one another to find the strength to effect positive changes in your life. You can find it "name your price" here : https://lowestxpriority.bandcamp.com/album/demo-2016

Despite sharing a title and similar sentiments, this isn't a cover of the 7 Seconds classic. Encouraging girls to come to the front, this is called Not Just Boys Fun.....

Pushed to the side, shoved to back
gotta stick together and take a stand
forced fed ideals, "dressed to impress"
making girls in hardcore pass a fucking test

always questioned on every moves i make
use your head man, we're not the fucking same
sit down and listen, girls have a lot to say
not here for your validation NOT JUST BOYS FUN

NOT JUST BOYS FUN!

Gorilla Biscuits - No Reason Why

New York City's Gorilla Biscuits were formed in 1987 and were one of hardcore punk's greatest acts. The line up featured Anthony Civorelli (vocals), Walter Schreifels (guitar), Alex Brown (guitar), Arthur Smilios (bass) and Luke Abbey (drums). Despite being straight edge they took their name from the street term for Quaaludes.

1988 saw the release of a self titled 7" ep (from which today's song is taken), whilst the following year saw the Start Today full length, both were on Revelation Records. Similar in style to Minor Threat but lyrically there was less preaching of the straight edge mantra. Sputnikmusic describes them thus "raw energy with just the right amount of melody....motivating and lyrically intelligent."

Schreifels left in 1990 to form Quicksand (he later formed Rival Schools), the band carried on until 1992 when most of the remaining members formed CIV. They reunited in 2005 and have occasionally toured since then.

  This is No Reason Why.......

You're always on my back about what I mean to do
and all your talk is bothering me just wait until I'm through
I walk down to the corner store to catch up with my friends
They're puffin smoke high on dope, will this shit ever end?

I go down to the matinee
such stupid shit I see
as middle class suburban kids
grubbing money off of me
Tough guys staring picking fights
with new kids & with old
These attitudes help nobody
the guilty should be told
and we'll tell 'em

No Reason Why - to beat up on a poser skin
No Reason Why - to keep the little kids from getting in
No Reason Why - to take advantage of the people you know
No Reason Why - there's just no reason why.

Violent Reaction - Marching On

Today I bring you "Straight edge hardcore for the antisocial" from Violent Reaction. Formed in 2010 as a solo project by Liverpudlian Tom Pimlott and influenced by the Boston scene of the 80's as well as bands of the ilk of Negative Approach, Last Rights, Discharge, Blitz, Negative FX, The Fix, Poison Idea, Boston Strangler etc.... VxR are now based in Leeds and utilise the talents of Nicky Sarnella (drums), Chubby Charles (guitar), Calcolm X (bass) and Tom (Razor) Hardwick (guitar).

A demo cassette in 2011 was followed by a 6 track s/t ep before 2013 saw the release of debut album, City Streets. Next up was the Dead End ep before Revelation Records unleashed their new full length, Marching On. You can hear more from them on Bandcamp ( https://violentreaction.bandcamp.com/ ) or you can listen to the new album's blistering title track below. Certain to be one of the best hardcore album's of the year don't miss out.....
