The Owen Guns - Had Enough

  

  Hailing from New South Wales, The Owen Guns (https://www.facebook.com/theowenguns) are an old school punk band with strong views and a sense of humour. They seem to have become Just Some Punk Songs regulars with half a dozen previous appearances (including this one  https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2022/06/the-owen-guns-pulling-on-boots-racist.html). 

  They return today with a song from their new album. Featuring a line up of Sean The Bastard (Vox, Theramin, Synth, Otomatone, Cynicism), Mark (Guitar and raised eyebrows), Booker (Bass, ginseng and sarcasm) & Ma Tu (Drums, alto sax and liquid bread), the album is titled Songs About Fucking Idiots. The Owen Guns - Trans Rights are Human Rights

  

  Short and sweet today, a new track from New South Wales punks The Owen Guns (https://www.facebook.com/theowenguns). 

  They're a band that aren't afraid to share their opinions. They write about politics, religion, racist dickheads and plenty of other worthy topics. On their new song, they come out in support of trans rights. The song blasts by in around a minute, all Bandcamp proceeds will go to Transcend Australia transcend.org.au A registered charity that supports families and their trans and non binary children. The Owen Guns - Arson About

  

  One album I've been looking forward to hearing is Dawn Of The Braindead by New South Wales old school hardcore punk outfit The Owen Guns (https://www.facebook.com/theowenguns). They've been on here a few times previously, most recently in June when I featured their reimagining of a track from the Romper Stomper soundtrack (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2022/06/the-owen-guns-pulling-on-boots-racist.html). 

  That track features on the new album and it's just one of many highlights on a debut ep which melds together outrage and humour to great effect. The band (Sean the Bastard Vocals/Theremin/Kazoo,   Mark Guitar, Booker Bass & Ma Tu Drums/Vocals/Djembe/Tin Whistle) opine on subjects such as Bono, conspiracy theorists, zombies, pissheads and shit stirrers. The Owen Guns - Pulling on the Boots (Racist Dickhead)

  

"This is the Master Race"

Starting off today's blog update with "This is the master race" in bold letters could be a foolish move as when I post this on Facebook it's quite likely that that's all that will be visible from this review without clicking on the link and it will quite possibly give people the wrong idea about today's song. It's a song that originally featured on the soundtrack to the 1992 Russell Crowe movie Romper Stomper. It's a song that's been "reimagined" by New South Wales quartet The Owen Guns (https://www.facebook.com/theowenguns) and it's a song that will be helping out a very good cause.

  It's a song with a message. Racist skinheads aren't the master race. They're just thick dickheads looking for a fight. Happily this doesn't apply to all skinheads, many of whom are salt of the earth guys and girls who just love the scene and the music (a scene which can trace it's roots back to Jamaican music). It's just directed to a small but unfortunate minority who think with their fists. 

  

 

 If you are a skinhead and you're offended by this song, ask yourself why? It's probably not aimed at you and it's a damn good song so enjoy it. If you think it probably is aimed at you then maybe you deserve to be offended. Either way, check it out and maybe download it, all proceeds made from Bandcamp go to https://www.facebook.com/sunsetsoupkitchen/, a volunteer based organisation that feeds the homeless in Darwin Australia. Most of those it helps are indigenous Australians.

  New South Wales punk upstarts The Owen Guns (https://www.facebook.com/theowenguns/) return with more aggressive punk outpourings in the form of a new single which is blazing a trail for their upcoming Ep 2 : Electric Boogaloo (which will be out late May on Riot Records/Golden Robot Records https://goldenrobotrecords.com/). 

Co written by Adam Check from Toe To Toe & One Dollar Short, it's a short sharp stream of vitriol aimed at the selfish morons who decided to start stockpiling toilet roll during a pandemic. I think you'll like it but if you don't, worry not, it's all over in a minute so there's no reason not to check it out.

The Owen Guns - It's Too Late

 

  You may remember that last month I featured the first single from Aussie hardcore punks The Owen Guns (https://www.facebook.com/theowenguns/). Titled Fuck Cyclists, it was a tongue in cheek tirade against the lycra clad road menace (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2020/06/the-owen-guns-fuck-cyclists.html). It was the first single released from their upcoming Violating Community Standards ep. Today they release single number 2 and as it went down a storm in the chatroom on yesterday's Just Some Punk Songs show I thought I'd share it on here.

  The song is a more serious affair than it's predecessor and it showcases both frontman Sean St Leone's powerful vocals and the band's ability to knock out an impressively pounding back beat. The music was written by Adam "Checky" Check (Toe To Toe/One Dollar Short) whilst lyricist Sean had this to say about the story behind the track; "I don't normally write lyrics that are personal but this is an exception. I wrote it after finding out a "friend" tried to sexually assault another friend of mine. The victim asked me not to bash him when I found out so I respected their wishes, went round and hurled threats and abuse at him, and came home and wrote the lyrics."

  It's a song with real bite and bodes well for the future of a band that have roared out of the starting gate all guns blazing. It's titled It's Too Late...

The Owen Guns - Fuck Cyclists

  The Owen Guns (https://www.facebook.com/theowenguns/) are a band I've been keeping an eye on since Wreckless Enterprise Records' Ronny Van Dyk included them in his Top 10 "unknown but fucking amazing" new bands from Australia  (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2019/09/top-10-unknown-but-fucking-amazing-new_29.html). 

  They're an old school hardcore punk band who mix humour with antagonism and who hopefully have a long future in front of them. They're genre veterans with members split between Sydney and the south coast and it wouldn't surprise me if they're another breakout act following in the freshly laid footsteps of Amyl And The Sniffers & The Chats.

   They've a new ep out soon, it'll be available via Riot Records (https://goldenrobotrecords.com/riot-records/) and titled Violating Community Standards.
