Poole punks The Mistakes (https://www.facebook.com/themistakesuk) are back with a new album on NBQ Records. 13 storming tracks "brimming over with love and hate, wit and spite and their trademark incendiary style." It's titled A Head Full Of Damage and it's available on vinyl (150 blue & black splatter and 150 transparent) and cd and you can get it here : https://www.themistakes.net/shop
Today you're getting the video to a blistering track that showcases the band at their best. Fast paced, hard hitting and topical, this is One Way Ticket...
Poole punks The Mistakes have been working hard constantly touring the UK and Europe for over 6 years and they're making something of a name for themselves amongst discerning genre fans. All their hard work, combined with the success of their Anti-Social Media album (available on their own NBQ Records : http://www.nbqrecords.com/) led to them being asked to play last year's Rebellion Festival. They went down a storm and have been invited back this year. Other forthcoming gigs include the Cream Of The Crop punk and oi all dayer in Bedford, the Watford Punk Collective's Two Night Stand and the Morecambe Punk Festival. You can check out details here : https://www.facebook.com/themistakesuk/
The band are a 5 piece featuring Ross Sutcliffe (vocals), Shane Creech (rhythm guitar), James Gould (lead guitar), Richie Blandford (bass guitar) and Lewis Willoughby (drums). They list amongst their influences the likes of Rancid, NOFX, Offspring, UK Subs, Pennywise etc. They make in your face but catchy street punk music and never disappoint, each release is an event to look forward to.
The song you'll find below is taken from new album Upstarts And Heretics (listen on Spotify : https://open.spotify.com/album/4lTIOjAXmaZH9ZBlTdWKnb) and has just been complimented with a pretty cool lyric video. The song comments on the impending regulation of online adult content. As Ross sings, "Give back my fucking porn." It's an anthemic hands off warning to modern day Mary Whitehouse's called Pride And Fetishes...
Another song with a big booming singalong chorus today as Poole punk 5 piece The Mistakes return to Just Some Punk Songs. Having previously featured with the songs Never Be Quiet (the song that shares a name with their record company), Democracy and Quitters Get Nothing, regular visitors will already know that the band have a knack of penning catchy but powerful street punk anthems. Fans of their balls to the wall music will be excited to hear there's a new album out today called Upstarts And Heretics. They've also a bunch of new merch available and you can get all details on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/themistakesuk/ https://www.facebook.com/nbqrecords/
2018 was a busy year for the guys, as well as January's Anti Social Media album they gigged regularly (including making their debut at the Rebellion Festival, going down a storm and getting invited back for 2019) and paid a visit to Candy Bomber Studios in Berlin to record the new album with Ingo Krauss and Moses Schneider. All that gigging and working with the best people looks to have paid dividends going off the evidence of the video they've just released. Upstarts And Heretics is their first vinyl release and will be a perfect stocking filler.
To whet your appetites, this is Walk Tall...
Line em up,
And we’ll knock em down
Tell you right now so that we don’t have a problem
We won’t stop,
And we won’t back down
Gonna march right through you lame fucks territory
You’re burned out
We’re ascending
100 miles an hour like we only eat amphetamines
You got nothing
That can stop us now
Hasn’t been a wall built that we cannot just tear down
Hey! Hey! Hey!
Walk tall,
And smash your way though everything
Hey! Hey! Hey!
Walk tall,
And There ain’t a fight that you can’t win
Hey! Hey! Hey!
Walk tall,
And you’ll find out who’s your enemy
Hey! Hey! Hey!
Walk tall,
And stay the hell away from me
So many snides
So many charlatans
So many two faced snake oil salesmen
This is our shout
This is your reckoning
We’ll chase you out and you won’t come back again
Shield line,
We’re the warriors
Waves break but they’ll never ever break us
Crashing down
We’re victorious
Your day is done and the sunrise looks so glorious now
Poole, Dorset, label Never Be Quiet (NBQ) are building up a small but extremely impressive roster of south coast punk bands. The Mistakes, The Crash Landings and Kill The Colossi (watch out for their upcoming debut album, Herd Mentality) are members of the NBQ family and all three are really, really good. The label is run and owned by The Mistakes' vocalist Ross Sutcliffe and rhythm guitarist Shane Creech and they're about to unleash what promises to be their best release yet, a new album by The Mistakes.
From Poole and influenced by the likes of Rancid, The Clash, Anti Flag etc, The Mistakes also feature James Gould (lead guitar), Richie Blandford (bass guitar) and Lewis Willoughby (drums). They claim to be loud, fast and awesome and though they may have their tongues in their cheeks when they say this, they're right.
The new album is called Anti Social Media, it's due out on 29th January on all digital media platforms and by mail order and on the evidence of the couple of tracks I've heard it's going to be one of the year's best. You can order it here : https://www.facebook.com/commerce/products/1786775878064585/
From the album, here's a song I can definitely empathize with! It's called Quitters Get Nothing....
My brain boils inside my skull
My organs ache from stress and alcohol
I can't afford to keep up this charade
My soul is in a coma and the flesh is scars
I've ran out of love to give
I'm a cold hard robot just trying to live
I'm get by doing what I can
I'm a 9-5 working class man
Living in my overdraft no money of my own
I break my back and work my fingers to the bone
A basic wage don't get you a mortgage for your home
We'll keep on keeping on because that's the way it is
As long as Evies. got food in the fridge
Quitter Quitter Quitter
quitters get nothing
Don't thrown your cards in, life could be bluffing
Quitter Quitter Quitter
Quitters get nothing
At all
The poison builds
And fills my veins
We need a break
But I can't pay
We can't afford
To be alive
My soul is triple mortgaged
And there's tax due on my heart
I'm all out of fucks to give
You can't keep on driving
When your cars repossessed
I can't keep on doing what I am
I'm at 24/7 risk of heart attack
Maxed out on my overdraft
Turned down for every loan
Can't afford to leave the house
To get to the grindstone
A basic wage means basically
Your life is not your own
And you know you've got it rough
When your rent keeps going up
While your basic pay stays static
And your over time is cut
So what it's five pound a pint
When you can't afford to eat
And you pay the bedroom tax
On a home you'll never own
And your credit card is straining
So take another pay day loan
And then you take a second job
Just to keep from walking the streets
Taken from the forthcoming album, Anti Social Media, it's titled Democracy and it's a timely battle cry concerning itself with the voting trends of the general public in the Brexit referendum, the US presidential election and quite possibly the UK general election.
Playing balls to the wall punk rock, the band line up features Ross Sutcliffe (vocals), Shane Creech (rhythm guitar), James Gould (lead guitar), Richie Blandford (bass) and Lewis Willoughby (drums). Their influences include the likes of Rancid, The Clash, Anti-Flag, The King Blues etc.
This song is for the 48% who don't get their voices heard, it's called Democracy....
You don't collect bins anymore, It's like the 80's all over again Comparisons hard to ignore But you're no Iron Lady just a desperate... Oh yeah we've been here once before, you can't ignore, human rights are not just rules they lift us from animals...
Democracy's a dirty word That's how it feels now the people's voice has been heard Democracy's a dirty word That's how it feels now the people's voice has been heard
You say they were both protest votes Not what we wanted just a way of rocking the boat But now it's gone way past a joke The only winners dusting off their old hoods and robes Democracy's a dirty word, that's what I heard, Shouted at the riot police, anti fash, Dressed in black screaming...
Democracy's a dirty word That's how it feels now the people's voice has been heard Democracy's a dirty word That's how it feels now the people's voice has been heard
The Mistakes are, according to their Facebook profile, loud, fast and awesome. Going off the video you'll find posted below, they may just be right.
They're from Poole, Dorset and currently line up with Ross Sutcliffe (vocals), Shane Creech (rhythm guitar), James Gould (lead guitar), Richie Blandford (bass) and Lewis Willoughby (drums).
After playing an hour's worth of UK punk from 2016 on the Just Some Punk Songs show this week (http://mixlr.com/mick-fletcher/showreel/just-some-punk-songs-uk-2016/), I've had people recommending me bands to include in a volume 2. The Mistakes are one of the bands that have been brought to my attention so whilst I know very little about them at the moment I'll be delving deeper in due course. What I do know about them is that they're supporting The U.K. Subs on Fri 11th November at The Polygon in Southampton and at Mr Kyps in Poole on the following day, I'm sure they'll be playing songs from their brand new 5 track ep which is out now on rhythm guitarist Shane Creech's Never Be Quiet Records.
From the ep and sharing a title with the label, this is Never Be Quiet....
