Kool & the Gang Bangers - I'm Not A Pinhead

It's only a couple of months ago that I posted a song from Feel Bad Music, the debut album by lo-fi Swedish garage sensations Kool & The Gang Bangers (get the album here if you missed it :   https://koolandthegangbangers.bandcamp.com/album/kool-the-gang-bangers).

We might be suffering from the effects of a global pandemic but that ain't keeping the band from carrying on recording and they've already released a great new song. No doubt inspired by one of The Ramones' most famous tracks (the one that starts "Gabba gabba we accept you we accept you one of us...") it's a stripped down blast of primitive garage in which Kool proclaims that though he might not have had much of an education and he certainly ain't got much in the way of class or money, he ain't dumb enough to follow your rules. He'd rather be dead than be like you.

The Ramones' classic was based on the Tod Browning 1932 movie Freaks in which sufferers of a neurological disorder called microcephaly (cruelly referred to as pinheads) were "attractions" in a sideshow. Despite the movie being titled Freaks, it was the "normal" characters in the movie who in he main were the horrific ones. In this song, the Pinheads are the all to numerous members of modern day society who lack empathy for their fellow human beings. The emotionally retarded. The blissfully dumb.

This is I'm Not A Pinhead...

Kool & The Gang Bangers - Television Victim

Just Some Punk Songs regulars will hopefully be familiar with Swedish lo-fi garage sensations Kool & The Gang Bangers. The brainchild of seasoned musician Kool who sings and and is ably supported by his merry band of Gang Bangers. He's been putting out some great diy releases over the last few months and has attracted the attention of No Front Teeth Records who're bringing that music to a wider audience. If you're a fan of raw punk rock, then you need Feel Bad Music in your life. 16 scuzzy rockers dealing with subjects such as misanthropy, wanting to hide away indoors, not wanting to answer the phone, working the graveyard shift etc... There's even a cover of a song by fellow countrymen The Dirts (https://thedirts.bandcamp.com/ ).

You can get various versions of the album; black vinyl, black vinyl with red flipback sleeve (ltd to 50 copies), the Feel Bad Pack (black vinyl lp, T Shirt and pin badge) and the digital download :   https://koolandthegangbangers.bandcamp.com/album/feel-bad-music

This track is about having nothing better to do with your life than sit around in front of the goggle box. it's like GG Allin fronting The Ramones with KBD Records capturing the results on a bootleg.  It's called Television Victim...

Kool & the Gang Bangers - Killer Kops

Damn, it's only a month since we were treated to a rather splendid 5 track ep by Swedish garage sensation Kool & The Gang Bangers (it was covered here :   https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2020/02/kool-gang-bangers-hang-up-phone.html) but already they return with a brand new single. I don't really need to rehash all the info again so let me just tell you the single's on No Fidelity Records and you can find it here :   https://koolandthegangbangers.bandcamp.com/track/killer-kops

Whilst trying to dig up a little more info to pad out this update I came across an ad for a gig in which they supported Sick On The Bus and it featured a quote from this very blog describing the band as “A blast of scratchy, lo fi nihilism. Minimalist punk rock songs that don't outstay their welcome, cheap & cheerfully recorded and very good indeed" and to be honest I'm not going to top that today. The new single is very much in the same vein, it's prime budget rock, it's raw punk tuneage, it's highly recommended. It's called Killer Cops...

Kool & the Gang Bangers - Hate The World

A 71 second blast of scratchy, lo fi nihilism today courtesy of the wonderfully named Kool & the Gang Bangers. They're from Little Rock, Arkansas and remind me a little of Buck Biloxi And The Fucks. Minimalist punk rock songs that don't outstay their welcome, cheap & cheerfully recorded and very good indeed. They've just released what I assume is their debut ep, it's 7 tracks in less than 10 minutes with lyrics about wanting to hide away at home, deadbeats that want your spare change or they'll stab you in the face, losers with nothing better to do than watch tv, not wanting to hang around with people that are full of shit etc....

It's on nofidelity records (though I'll be fucked if I can find a link anywhere for the label) and it's on Bandcamp : https://koolandthegangbangers.bandcamp.com/releases

This song is full of anger and loathing for oneself, ones locale and one's fellow man & woman (and even for one's dog!). It's called Hate The World...
