Disco Junk - I'm No Good With Numbers but I Know Which Tram I'm On

Last year I featured "a short blast of cool as fuck scratchy punk goodness" (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2019/09/disco-junk-mutual-hate.html) by a Melbourne 3 piece called Disco Junk (https://www.facebook.com/discojunkband/) but truth be told I didn't know much about them other than they started out as a one man project featuring Billy Twyford (aka Billiam https://hiimbilliam.bandcamp.com/). They seem to have settled on a more permanent line up now with Billy being joined by Tom Whyte (bass) and Ruben Riley (drums).

There's currently a busy production line of snotty young punk bands coming out of Australia but Disco Junk are one of the best. Last year's Underage Punk ep featured 4 scuffed up garage punk rippers that were as good as anything from that country in 2019 and lovers of everything lo-fi and snotty will be more than satisfied with their energetic new single. It'll be available in September on vinyl on a split 7" with another of Billy's bands, Collective Hardcore, via Goodbye Boozy Records.

You can get it digitally now : https://discojunk.bandcamp.com/album/im-no-good-with-numbers-but-i-know-which-tram-im-on-7-inch-out-september

Fast and frantic with squealing guitars and lyrics that rail against the suppression of diverse voices this is a rollicking good song. It's called I'm No Good With Numbers but I Know Which Tram I'm On...

Disco Junk - Mutual Hate

Today I bring you another band from that fertile oasis of all things punk rock, Australia. Disco Junk are from Melbourne and they describe themselves simply as musicians who create music that's good. Going off the evidence presented by their new ep, I can't argue with them. From what I can gather "they" began life a year or so ago under the name Republican Blue and were a one man project masterminded by teenage guitarist/bassist/vocalist Billy Twyford. Nowadays Lachie Smith is on drums and as photos of them show a third member I'm guessing they're quite probably a trio (sorry third guy for not knowing your name!). Anyway, as the title of their (name your price on Bandcamp) album suggests, they're young, loud and snotty. They're also very deserving of your attention so check them out https://www.facebook.com/discojunkband/

The new ep is titled Underage Punk, it's their first proper studio recording, recorded by Billy Gardner (Ausmuteants, Living Eyes, Anti Fade Records and mastered by the ubiquitous Mikey Young) and features their 4 best songs. The 7" is available from Hozac Records   https://hozacrecords.com/pre-order-disco-junk-underage-punk-7-ep/ whilst you can find it (and previous releases) digitally here : https://discojunk.bandcamp.com/album/underage-punk-7-inch

This is the opening track, it's a short blast of cool as fuck scratchy punk goodness about reciprocated enmity, it's called Mutual Hate...
