R.E.D (Religion Equals Decay) - Wham Bam

R.E.D (Religion Equals Decay) (https://www.facebook.com/redfromsurrey) have been shouting against social injustice since 2013. They've featured on here a couple of times previously in posts where I've mentioned their impressive soundscape of noise and Killing Joke vibes.

And they return today with a track from their brand new album, 1979.

The band say that 1979 pinpoints the year where hope ended and a failed social and political experiment started. It's the year Labour Prime Minister Jim Callaghan was forced to go to the country after his government lost a vote of confidence. This resulted in The Conservative Party, led by Margaret Thatcher, gaining a parliamentary majority of 44 seats. There followed 18 years of Tory rule.

It was a year which the album's title track describes as a time of gimme gimme gimme. A time of uncertainty, lies, darkness and despair. It's an album on which the band don't hold back. You can find it here : https://red-religionequalsdecay.bandcamp.com/album/1979

Today I'm going to highlight a song that borrows from Don McLean's American Pie, it's called Wham Bam...

FOOD FIGHT - Justicin' the Deplorables

As it says on their Bandcamp page, Food Fight are a four-piece combo from Rennes, France, made up of vets from the local scene (with ex- or current members of Headliners, Abuse, Ready-Mades, Cheap Riot…). Despite them being 3 years down the line from the release of their debut single (you can find it here : https://foodfightpowerpop.bandcamp.com/), they're yet another band that I've only just come across.

They've a new album out on 20th September. It's a joint release from French label Roaring Blood Records, Juvenile Delinquent Records and POCH Records. It'll be titled Zeitgeist Impressions and you can preorder it on vinyl here :  https://roaringblood.bandcamp.com/album/zeitgeist-impressions-lp or here :  https://juveniledelinquent.bandcamp.com/album/jd028-food-fight-zeitgeist-impressions

It's pitched as 70s style Punk Rock and Power Pop that'll please all fans of the Good Vibrations sound - think Undertones, Protex, Moondogs…

Upon hearing the teaser single (the one you'll find below) I was also hearing strong traces of The Clash (never a bad thing to be honest). I've been lucky enough to get an early listen to the album and can say the single isn't the only "hit" on there. If you like your punk music to conjure up memories of all your school playground favourite bands then you're in for a treat.

Get this in your lugholes, it's called Justicin' The Deploables...

Kjells Bänk - Miserable Youth

It's fun looking back at old updates on this blog and seeing some of the great songs I've posted (I annoyed my Oasis loving workmates today by turning the radio off when some turgid dirge by them was assaulting my ears and instead I blasted out a few random old songs off here). Some really good bands have featured over the last decade, some of those bands have gone on to be very successful. But I still get the biggest buzz when I come across new music by a band that I've previously been unaware of. Maybe it's a debut release or maybe I've somehow missed them (it's a big world out there).

Today's band are new to me but I'm impressed.

Kjells Bänk (https://www.facebook.com/kjellsbonk) are from Skellefteå in Sweden. (I hope Google is going to help me out with pronouncing their name before I play them on the next Just Some Punk Songs show). They've just released a new album on Sockiplast Records called The Miserable Youth Of Our Time. It's available on 12" vinyl or as a name your price download :  https://gronpepparrecords.bandcamp.com/album/the-miserable-youth-of-our-time

It's a dozen tracks of energetic and infectious punk by a band that look pretty damn young and are very damn good. I'll highlight the opening song on the album, it's called Miserable Youth...

False Cobra - Great Northern Hwy

False Cobra (https://www.facebook.com/falsecobraperth) are Al, Nath, Mark & Dyl, a punk rocking quartet from Perth, Australia. They've been together for (I think) around 5 years and surprisingly this is the first time I've come across them.

They've previously released a couple of eps plus a split 7" with Last Quokka but now they're back with a debut Self Titled album. It's 9 tracks of unmistakably Australian punk n roll. There's been plenty of similar sounding bands in recent years and somehow they all manage to sound bloody great.

You can checkout the album here : https://falsecobra.bandcamp.com/album/false-cobra

The song I'm featuring today is the one that closes the album. It's called Great Northern Hwy...

Frenzee - Pink Tax

Originally from Melbourne and relocated at a young age to Greece, Frenzee (https://www.facebook.com/frenzee.band) are a trio of siblings; Apollonia Xylouris (vocals), Antonis Xylouris (guitar) and Nikos Xylouris (drums).

They've been together as a band since 2020 and October 18th will see them releasing a new album titled What's Wrong With Me. It'll be available via Poison City & Ouga Booga on slime green vinyl, cd and digital download and it's going to be one of the most high octane releases of the year.                          https://frenzee.bandcamp.com/album/whats-wrong-with-me

The band are already making people sit up and listen, this single from the upcoming album will only ramp up expectations even more. It's called Pink Tax...

Pink tax I can’t afford my pink tax I’ve wasted all my money Cause I’m a little girly Day one It always starts on day one My toy is pink But your son Has a cheaper blue one Techno Don’t bore me with your techno When I say no It means no I do not like prosecco Blind eye You’d rather turn a blind eye Don’t wanna how or why Would rather get high and die Classist You are a shameless classist Proudly and loudly racist A homophobic fascist Sexist You are so fucking sexist Dobbed on you to my dentist She wrote you on her shitlist Simple My words are very simple Don’t make my heart rate triple Offended by a nipple Cappo The end of us is cappo Calling eachother ‘unit’ Advertising stupid

The Shitdels - Hold On

As seems to becoming a recurring theme on a Monday, here's a track that went down well with the chatroom for last night's Just Some Punk Songs show.

The Shitdels (https://www.facebook.com/TheShitdels) are new to me though a look at their Bandcamp page shows they've been releasing music since at least 2017 https://theshitdels.bandcamp.com/

They're from Nashville, Tennessee and they're gearing up to release a new album on Big Neck Records which will out on September 13th and will be titled Where's Your Head? The line up of the band on the album is Kiley Wells (PART TIME FILTH), Ryan Sweeney (SLEEVEENS/CHEAP TIME), and Jordan Wayne (AQUARIAN BLOOD).

Going off the preview single we're getting a dozen tracks combining garage rock with 60's soul. I'm certainly looking forward to hearing more. You can pre order the (aquamarine) vinyl here :  https://bigneckrecords1.bandcamp.com/album/wheres-your-head

  This song's called Hold On...

Paint Fumes - Crime Of Love

Paint Fumes (https://www.facebook.com/Paintfumes) are from Charlotte, North Carolina and have been around for over a decade now though I'm pretty sure I didn't really register them till last year's Real Romancer album (https://digpaintfumes.bandcamp.com/album/real-romancer).

Previous to that they'd released a couple of albums on Get Hip Recordings after starting out with 2012 debut lp Uck Life on Slovenly Recordings.

And now they've come full circle by returning to Slovenly with a new single. It's going to be out on September 6th and it'll be available on both gold or black vinyl. Numbers are limited so get in fast if you fancy a copy. https://paintfumesnc.bandcamp.com/album/paint-fumes-crime-of-love-b-w-try-me-ep

There's a new album in the pipeline too.

The flipside of the single will be a cover of Try Me, a 1958 hit for James Brown and the Famous Flames. The song you'll find below really deserves to be a hit too. It's a catchy punked up slice of power pop and it's called Crime Of Love...

Disorder - Dangerous Machine (Guest Review By Ralph J Rivera)

Greetings again from "King Ralph" & the wonderful Jersey Shore! Since my last review here I ran into a bit of a slump as far as new music goes. Sure there were tons of releases coming out but nothing "worth writing about" if you know what I mean.

But I did get an unexpected surprise around the first week of August. A brand new 4 song EP by one of my top 5 British Punk bands - DISORDER! (https://www.facebook.com/disorderpunkshop.co.uk). In 1981 these crazy bastards from Bristol, England changed not only the way I "heard" music but also the very way I would look & dress!  I've been following this band all through their career & many line-up changes but their music ALWAYS stayed the same, on the edge of chaos.

Which brings us up to 2024 and the release of "Nuclear Deterrent". https://chickenattackrecords.bandcamp.com/album/nuclear-deterrent.

4 brand new songs with Taf still on bass & vocals, with Alex on guitar & Jake on drums. This is one of the best versions of "Disorder" I've heard in a long time. Opening with the vitriolic stomper "Dangerous Machine", the cider starts flowing! Next is "Choco Molokko" bringing back the "Rampton Song" style madness. "Rotten" is a mid-pace headbanger that would be right at home on "Perdition". Ending with the title track, Disorder once again prove they just may be one of the best remaining UK82 bands. I give "Taf" insane amounts of credit for keeping this band going for over 40 years! If for some reason you've never heard Disorder this 4 song EP would be a great introduction. How many bands from the 80's can you say that about?

Still bringing the noise, the chaos & the insanity. Disorder will always be as this song says....

  Dangerous Machine...

Last Quokka - Cost Of Living

One of my favourite albums of last year was Disconnected by a band from Perth, Australia called Last Quokka (https://www.facebook.com/lastquokka). I featured one of the songs (and told you what a quokka was here : https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2023/05/last-quokka-disconnected.html).

Now they're back (they being Trent (vocals), Carlota (drums), Kirill (guitar), Justin (guitar) & Ray (bass)) with a new song and it's a lively old thing.

A few week's ago they posted; "We're fed up. Rent and bills are through the roof. Weed is almost cheaper than fruit n' veg. Saw an avocado for 25 dollars the other day - shit you not. Meanwhile Albo is giving more tax cuts to the rich and spending 8 BILLION on nuclear submarines. What a crock!"

And that's what the new song deals with. You can find it here :  https://lastquokka.bandcamp.com/track/cost-of-living

The sound of a band finding it hard to put dinner on their plate, this is Cost Of Living...

Gimp Fist - Screaming

So on last night's Just Some Punk Songs show the roof was blown off the chatroom by a song called Whites Of Your Eyes. It's one of the highlights on Losing Streak, the 10th studio album by County Durham street punks Gimp Fist (https://www.facebook.com/gimpfist).

I've long thought they're easily one of the best bands out there that make this kind of music and their latest release just reinforces that opinion. 15 tracks of catchy as fuck working class anthems (you'd expect nothing less from these guys). No Bandcamp link but you can check it out on Spotify or Youtube

It's an album with it's fair share of politically themed songs where the band stand up to the charlatans in power ("Who's gonna help to get this country right on track?"), ("Hey politicians, you devils in disguise, we won't stop until we see the whites in your eyes"), ("This is our scene and we're taking it back. The sound of the streets for white and for black").

CD and vinyl are available from Sunny Bastards :

They've released a few videos to coincide with the album so today I'll highlight one of those. This is Screaming...

Golden Shitters - Strike

Golden Shitters are a garage punk trio from Hamilton, Ontario who feature a line up of Matt Ellis (vocals/guitar/bass), Dave Tyson (vocals guitar/bass) & Kyle Fisher (vocals/drums). I first came across them almost a year ago when I was mightily impressed with their debut album. I wrote this at the time :  https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2023/10/golden-shitters-dont-relax.html

And now they're back with 4 new tracks on the Love Blows ep. It's still very much a case of short songs played fast and those short songs are still damn catchy. The ep's available on vinyl via Ugly Pop Records and it's on Bandcamp : https://goldenshitters.bandcamp.com/album/love-blows

This track is an early favourite, it's called Strike...

And now I'm underpaid
Got unions callin' me late
And you're tellin' me I gotta care
About some problems out there
Get me outta here
I'm going on strike

I'm on strike

And now I'm at the new gig
As a brand new guinea pig
And you're tellin' me I gotta do
All the bullshit that you say to
Get me outta here
I'm going on strike

I'm on strike

Yeah you know I'm on strike

Easers - No Pay Raise

Easers (https://www.facebook.com/EASERSBAND/) are a 3 piece punk band from Grand Rapids, Michigan who I recently stumbled upon. They feature a line up of  Ben (Drums/Vocals),  Andrew (Guitar/Vocals) & Cedric (Bass/Backups) and their previous releases can be found here :  https://easers.bandcamp.com/album/easers

They've just released a new Self Titled 12 track cassette on Painters Tapes and it's well worth your time. Short songs, part hardcore, part garage it's also available as a name your price download :  https://painterstapes.bandcamp.com/album/easers-3

This track in particular caught my attention, it's called No Pay Raise...

The Haermorrhoids - CIA

Some pop punk for you today.

The Haermorrhoids (https://www.facebook.com/thehaermorrhoids) are from Hamburg and I'm not sure I've heard them before but they've been around for quite a while. This was an album of theirs from 2018 : https://lapochettesurpriserecords.bandcamp.com/album/apparatus-of-the-ultimate-power

And, from last year, this was their most recent album :  https://momsbasementrecords.bandcamp.com/album/the-haermorrhoids-at-the-earths-core

After having a listen, They seem very much influenced by The Lillingtons (a good thing), punchy melodic songs with lyrics about Dr. Frankensteins Kung Fu Monsters and Nuclear Power X-Ray Man.

They've just released a split ep with Proton Packs which you can find on Mom's Basement Records and Badman Records : https://momsbasementrecords.bandcamp.com/album/the-haermorrhoids-vs-proton-packs-split

As I said, it's very catchy. Pop punk exactly as I like it. This track is called CIA...

Great Silence - Something Wrong (With Being Happy)

I've got to be honest. I like a bit of gritty, melodic punk rock. Stuff like Tearjerker, Rivalry and Bear Away would be recent favourites. So it makes sense I'm enjoying the new Self Titled ep by Great Silence (https://www.facebook.com/greatsilencepunk).

They're a band with members from Warrington, Manchester and Stoke. They line up thus; Will Atkinson (bass/vocals), Dec O'Reilly (guitar/vocals), Joe Watson (guitar/vocals) & Hendrik Buchheister (drums).  Their debut 7 track ep is now available on cd and digital download via Little Rocket Records and it's bloody good. If you're a fan of shouty singalongs give it a go :  https://greatsilence.bandcamp.com/album/great-silence-ep

Not easy to choose a highlight but I think I'll go with the ep's closing earworm. This is Something Wrong (With Being Happy)...

FILTH IS ETERNAL - VIOLET

Definitely one of the hits on this week's Just Some Punk Songs show was this cover of a song originally released by Hole and is about Hole vocalist Courtney Love's relationship with Smashing Pumpkin's frontman Billy Corgan. The original is a classic and happily, this cover pretty much matches up to it.

Filth Is Eternal (https://www.facebook.com/filthiseternal) are a grunge rock trio from Seattle. You can check out a couple of their albums here : https://filthiseternal.bandcamp.com/music

Can Filth Is Eternal vocalist Lis D'Angelo match Courtney Love's full throttle performance? I'll leave you to judge. Feel free to comment. This is Violet...

And the sky was made of amethyst And all the stars were just like little fish You should learn when to go You should learn how to say no Might last a day, yeah Mine is forever Might last a day, yeah Mine is forever When they get what they want, and they never want it again And they get what they want, and they never want it again Go on, take everything, take everything, I want you to Go on, take everything, take everything, I want you to And the sky was all violet I want it again, but violent, more violent Yeah, I'm the one with no soul One above and one below Might last a day, yeah Mine is forever Might last a day, yeah Mine is forever When they get what they want, and they never want it again When they get what they want, and they never want it again Go on, take everything, take everything, I want you to Go on, take everything, take everything, I want you to Told you from the start just how this would end When I get what I want, then I never want it again Go on, take everything, take everything, I want you to Go on, take everything, take everything, I want you to Go on, take everything, take everything, I want you to Take everything, take everything Go on, take everything, take everything, I want you to Go on, take everything, take everything, I want you to Go on, take everything, take everything, I want you to Take everything, take everything

The Pist - Right To Choose

The Pist (https://www.facebook.com/pistpunks) are a hardcore punk band from Connecticut who were active in the mid 90's before getting back together again last year to write and record tracks which came out as a new album this January. It was called Is Risen and you can check it out here :  https://thepist.bandcamp.com/album/is-risen

And now they return with a couple of updated versions of old favourites. They're available on 7" vinyl and digital download : https://thepist.bandcamp.com/album/right-to-choose-jim-martin

This track's been changed from the original version to make it reflect more the current state of the USA following the overturning of Roe vs Wade. It now features lead vocals by Janine St. Clair from Witch Hunt/The Brood/The Dissidents, Michelle Northam from Sick Fix, Jen Stephens from Vomit Punx and East Coast Panic, Rachel Courtney from the Dissidents and Jen Derise.

  It's called Right To Choose...

The Glitterbombs - LGB (with the TNB)

The Glitterbombs (https://www.facebook.com/TheGlitterbombs) are a Brighton punk fusion and the word on the street is that they're ready to blow...

They've just released a debut single. It's your soundtrack for Brighton Pride 2024 and it's a call for inclusivity and solidarity within the LGBTQ+ community!

The band sees Niall Sparkles teaming up with Jimmy and Captain Jax, who was on the blog last week as a member of Daffodildos https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2024/07/daffodildos-no-pride.html (and Daffodildos have just released a new single so check it out too   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06J7ZepvS1Q).

The Glitterbombs have this to say about their single "The Glitterbombs focus on inclusivity and pushing back against TERFs (trans-exclusionary radical feminists) is an important stand for ensuring that everyone, regardless of their gender identity, feels welcome and celebrated. A catchy, sing-along chorus is a great way to bring people together and amplify the message, making it a rallying cry for all who believe in equality and acceptance. This single is a great addition to pride events and gatherings, helping to foster a sense of community and shared purpose. We hope it will inspire many to join the fight against discrimination and hate!"

This is LGB (with the TNB)
