Surfbort - Bubble Girl
And just as the lockdown begins to bite and boredom is setting in, along come Brooklyn's finest, Surfbort (https://www.facebook.com/surf666bort/) with an Apocalypse Care Package and everything in the world seems just that little bit better.
There's been loads of new music rush released during this period of isolation and to be honest, it's been of varying quality. There's plenty of good stuff but also quite a bit that sounds either rushed or badly recorded (which with bands stuck at home is unsurprising so I'm not knocking anyone for getting music out to the fans but it will be good to hear better versions one day). When I saw that Surfbort had released an ep of demos I was looking forward to checking it out but wondering if it would live up to their earlier work. The good news is it certainly does. Ben Greenberg and Jonathan Schenke have done a damn fine job recording, mixing and mastering the 5 songs and the band have turned in some of their catchiest tunes yet. It's a case of if it ain't broken don't fix it as we're treated to more of the snotty garage influenced punk they've mastered down the years. If you're a Surfbort fan you'll lap it up. 5 tracks 5 winners, go get it here : https://surfbort.bandcamp.com/album/apocalypse-care-package-demos
I could have picked any of them to post below so I'll play a different song on this week's Just Some Punk Songs show but for the blog I'll go with the opener. This is Bubble Girl...
