As some of you will remember, the Just Some Punk Songs favourite song of 2016 was by a female fronted band from Madrid (for those that missed the Top 50 you can find it here : http://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.co.uk/2016/12/the-best-50-songs-of-2016.html). Could lightning strike twice? Well today's update sees a new song from another excellent female fronted band from Madrid grace these pages so it's a possibility.
Rata Negra (English translation Black Rat) are a 3 piece Spanish punk outfit featuring Fa (guitar/vocals), Violeta (bass) and Pablo (drums). Fa and Violeta were previously together in Juanita And The Ugly whilst Pablo was in the USSR. In 2014 they released their debut ep, Corasones, and you can find it name your price on Bandcamp. They followed it up last week with excellent debut album Oldo Absoluto. Oido Absoluto sees them taking on more of a punk sound than their previous bands but we're still treated to a dozen melodically catchy tunes, none of which are long enough to outstay their welcome. Spain seems to be producing some great music at the moment, Rata Negra are a fine example of that. The song I've chosen to post today is called El Automata.....
