South Class Veterans - For Hire (demo)
Here's something most of you won't have heard before from a new band called South Class Veterans. I just got sent the link to a couple of demo songs from this new street punk/oi band from New Jersey (cheers Gerry!). Featuring members of bands such as One4One, Oxblood and Thick As Thieves (Dan, Scott, Sean, Gregg) they've premiered 2 demo tracks so far with the promise of two more to follow. You can check them out for free on Bandcamp.... https://southclassveterans.bandcamp.com/releases
Nothing much on Facebook so far but give them a like and you'll be able to keep an eye on their progress https://www.facebook.com/Southclassveterans/
Both of the released songs are great so give them a listen, I'm pretty confident we'll be hearing a lot more from this band. I'll post the first one below, it's one I can certainly relate to, this is For Hire....
I wake each day, at the crack of down only to do whats right.
I've got to pay the bills on time each month to make sure I have heat and lights
I get to hear my boss bitch and complain about his wonderful life
trying to stay a float on a minimal wage is slavery outright
But that line at the clock is forming
punch the card and leave it behind.
Once that door closes, out of sight, out of mind.
Ready for the weekend
it took its precious time,
gonna rage until the tank is dry cuz monday morning its back to the grind.
Every week its just the same old thing, its got my mind in a mess.
I do my work plus the guy's they fired and its building on my stress
I've got a bomb inside that is filled with pride and they're not gonna break this man,
because i need this job for the house I hold, I'm just a cog in their master plan
But that line at the clock is forming
punch the card and leave it behind.
Once that door closes, out of sight, out of mind.
Ready for the weekend
it took its precious time
gonna rage until the tank is dry cuz monday morning its back to the grind
I wake each day at the crack of down and I head right out the door
to a job I hate, what kind of life is this, growing old, tired and sore
I get to hear my boss bitch and complain about whatever he pleases
im just a south class vet, yes the working poor, in a world of endless greed

Please Stop! - High Horse
photo by Anna Reasner, Art by AMR
Please Stop! are a new band from Minnesota featuring Staysee (vocals), Danimal (guitar), Cheetah (bass) and Reckless Jane Danger (drums). It's not the first band that several of the members have been in but it's a new start for them and they've recently released a debut 7" ep on No Front Teeth Records titled Power Suit And Dead Bodies. You can check out the digital release on Bandcamp (There's 8 tracks, though if you support the band they'll throw in another 3 as a bonus) : https://pleasestop.bandcamp.com/
The ep is hard hitting, female fronted punk that's not afraid to take on difficult topics such as pill popping parents and knife wielding hitchhikers. The music is raw and threatening and compliments the dark subject matter of the lyrics. Vocalist Staysee has a unique vocal style that suits this kind of edgy punk perfectly.
The band are currently playing plenty of shows in the Midwest and you can find more details here : https://www.facebook.com/pleasestoprocks/
This song is called High Horse....
Hey! I'm an impostor
but now that I've told you
You can't act surprised when you notice
Narcissistic, pretentious, high horse, wanna be, loser
I wanna be a poser, you want me to be not real
I'm not as cool as you
but now that I've told you
You can't act surprised when you notice

Kill-A-Watts - Shopping Mall Moron
Recent updates have concentrated pretty much solely on new music but as the latest Just Some Punk Songs show was a garage punk special and it seems to have gone down so well with those that have listened to it, I'll post one of the songs from the show as today's update. If you want to listen to the whole show you can find it saved here : https://www.mixcloud.com/mick-fletcher/just-some-punk-songs-garage-special/
Kill-A-Watts are from Wauwatosa, Wisconsin and you can find their music name your price on Bandcamp : https://kill-a-watts.bandcamp.com/ The song I played on Sunday's show and which I'm posting below was on their Electrorock album. It was released on Rip Off Records in 2001 and the line up at that time was Ryan King (lead guitar/vocals), Jennifurball (rhythm guitar), Melissa (bass/vocals) and Mechadrum (drums).
The album as a whole is a blast. Fast paced, raw and catchy, it's guaranteed to have you bouncing round your room. There's a dozen short sharp blasts of top notch garage rock n roll, including this one. This is Shopping Mall Moron....

Who Killed Spikey Jacket? - What's Your Excuse?
Who Killed Spkey Jacket are the pogo punk band from Boston, Massachusettes, who previously appeared on here back in 2014 with their reworking of the UK Subs' classic, Warhead (http://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/who-killed-spikey-jacket-gluehead_10.html).
They formed in 2010 and announced themselves the following year by way of a split album with Leicester band The Wankys and have since released numerous eps & splits on labels such as Total Fucker Records, Joe Pogo Records etc. There's was also 2015's S/T compilation album. Recently they returned on top Japanese label Pogo 77 Records with new ep, Sleepytime Punks.
As with all their previous releases, the new material is great fun. It's in your face, bounce around the room punk in the vein of the likes of The Casualties, Tom And Boot Boys, Discocks etc. Released to coincide with their Japanese tour it's a definite winner.
You might have to turn up the volume for this video but it's well worth it. If you're a punk, you must wear studs. If you don't, What's Your Excuse?
Babies can make noise, birds can make music, your grandma sews pants but only punks wear studs
hippies can protest, most people survive, jocks can fight back but only punks wear studs
what's your excuse?
if you are a punk you must wear studs
dogs can be loyal, police can unite, sports fans are proud but only punks wear studs
frats get drunk, animals smell bad, hobos ride trains but only punks wear studs
studs are cheap, studding is easy take a few hours out of your life to show the world you are punk and proud

Cult Values - Jump Ship
Cult Values are from Berlin and went down a storm when I played them on last week's Just Some Punk Songs show. They combine post punk with hardcore to great effect and you should check them out. If you get on over to their Bandcamp page you'll find their 2015 Demo, a track from the Nothing Nice To Say compilation and their debut S/T album. All are name your price so no reason to miss out : https://cultvalues.bandcamp.com/
The album came out last year on Deranged Records and is 10 tracks of moody yet aggressive 80's influenced punk. There's plenty of songs I could have highlighted but I'm going with Jump Ship.....
Jump ship
storm moving up the coast
jump ship
abandon any hope
rats have taken over
and they're feeding on the dead
jump ship
the center cannot hold
jump ship
abandon any hope
rats have taken over
and they're feeding on the dead
and everything burns behind us
and the void is up ahead
jump ship
we're sinking like a stone
jump ship
abandon any hope
rats have taken over
and they're feeding on the dead
and everything burns behind us
and the void is up ahead
storm moving up the coast
and everyone's pretending
like there's something to be saved
there's nothing to be saved

The Fallout - Turn It Down
The Fallout are a straight up, stripped down political punk band from Toronto with backbone and backbeat. Amongst their influences are listed the likes of The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers, The Jam and Ramones. They've been together for around 20 years and their songs are social commentary with a killer soundtrack; singalong rebellious music from a 3 piece that wear their hearts on their sleeves. The line up features Byron (guitar/vocals), Bob (drums/vocals) and Patty (bass/vocals).
They've previously appeared on here with their own song, Talkin' Punk Civil War and with a storming cover of The Rebel Spell's Fight For The Sun. If you're not already familiar with them then you should definitely check out their impressive back catalogue on Bandcamp.... https://thefalloutcanada.bandcamp.com/
I'd heard a while ago that they were working on new material and was excited when they posted one of the newly recorded songs on the Rebel Time Records Youtube page. It's about the Turn It Down campaign against white power music / hate rock of a few years ago and it features Patty on vocals. They plan to release a 4 song 7" ep and then follow it up with a new album.
This is Turn It Down.....
White noise
In stereo sound
Nothing sounds worse
Need to turn it down
Turn it down
Feeble minds cling to misguided fears
Forcing their nonsense
Into naïve ears
Turn it down
Mouth full of hate
Head full of shit
Bigots pandering to idiots
Turn it down
Your out of touch
Get with the times
Turn it around
And leave your hate behind
Turn it down

Bikini Cops - Violence
Bikini Cops are a garage punk band from Perth, Western Australia who play the kind of music that'd have fitted right in on one of the classic Killed By Death compilations. They're a 4 piece featuring Chris Balch, Sean Hunter, Kyzw Pursell and Paul Wachla and they've released a couple of ep's (snappily titled 1 and Two). Both are available name your price on Bandcamp : https://bikinicops.bandcamp.com/
Coming soon will be a new 7" 6 track ep, you possibly won't be surprised to learn it'll be titled Three. They've already teased us with a song from it on Youtube.
This is Violence....

Channel 3 - Put 'Em Up
Channel 3 formed in Cerritos, California in 1980. I'm assuming many of you are already familiar with them but if you want a good potted history you should visit their site : http://chthree.com/#?=About
They've just released a new album called Put 'Em Up which is available on the relaunched TKO Records. They say the album is a statement on the fearful post-Trump apocalyptic era with themes of political oppression and romantic bewilderment. You can get more details here : https://channelthree.bandcamp.com/releases
This is the title track, Put 'Em Up....
It's not the same, these voices have changed
Once was a discussion but it's now a spitting rage
Bring us your tired, bring us your poor
Just drop em off at the prison doors
A call to prayer, you hear a call to arms , A turn to Mecca as a civil alarm
Out in the fields they all fall to their knees They sign the cross as they pull the weeds
Put em up in the stables boy
Freeze em out in the snow _
We'll build a wall out of ignorance
And hatred heavy as stone_
Checkpoint, check, put the curfews in place, re open up Manzanar
Let's concentrate on concentration, put ‘em up in boxcars
So feed your fears and put up your walls
To block your view of injustice for all
Our melting pot is now a pressure cooker, and here we come to the boil
You offer your sweat, your food and your culture, but where the fuck is your oil?
The anger that you bury down in the dark, That fecund fertile place
It pushes up through the soil of your heart, a seed married to your fate
The crack in your heart let the light turn black, the hope all turn to gloom
What will load each empty chamber, which caliber of doom?
History is written at night Put up your hands, give up your rights
History is written at night When they come will you put up a fight?
Put em all away

Any similarities with the ad for the show and a classic album cover are purely coincidental (honest!).
Anyway, back to the important stuff. A big thanks to Greg for selecting a great Top 10, I'll hand you over to him.....

Heterofobia - Sudor
Heterofobia are a post punk 4 piece from Monterrey in Mexico who's line up features Samara (bass), Dani (vocals), Alex (drums) and Pika (guitar). They released their debut ep, Maquetas, in October of last year and followed it up a couple of months ago with debut cassette album Eres Tan Guapo (google translate informs me it means You're So Handsome). You can find both releases "name your price" on Bandcamp... https://heterofobiamx.bandcamp.com/
If darkly gothic post punk is your music of choice then you need to check them out. This song translates as Sweat and it's about those times when you're in bed, partway between sleeping and wakefulness and you're worrying about those noises and shadows, about that presence in the room that might be a dream or could be real. It's called Sudor.....
una sensación extraña, estoy sudando en mi cama
¿voy despierto o voy dormido? Estoy temblando en mi cama
se oyen ruidos en el techo, veo sombras todo el tiempo
me persiguen por el cuarto, mueven cosas, rompen cosas
no te veo, no te siento
estoy temblando, estoy sudando
no te veo, no te siento
estoy temblando
una sensación extraña, estoy sudando en mi cama
¿voy despierto o voy dormido? Estoy temblando en mi cama
se oyen ruidos en el techo, veo sombras todo el tiempo

Prom Nite - No Motivation
Prom Nite are a female fronted discordant punk band from Toronto who formed in October 2015 and who recently released their debut album Dancing To This Beat on Barfbag Records. They'd previously released 4 tapes and you can find them all, plus the album, "name your price" on Bandcamp.... https://realrockers.bandcamp.com/
Their sound reminds me of Judy And The Jerks (http://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.co.uk/2017/02/judy-and-jerks-sweet-treat-for-me.html). Featuring Scott from VCR and Chloe from Anti-Vibes, Dancing To This Beat is a collection of jerky diy tunes such as the one you'll find below.

4 Past Midnight - Let's Go
4 Past Midnight formed in 1989 and are based in Glasgow. Their line up features Fred Stevenson (rhythm guitar), Peter McCartney (lead vocals/occasional drums), Tam Bowman (lead guitar), Stevie Goldsack (bass) and Ruben Fernandez (drums). They list amongst their influences the likes of The Ramones, Conflict Oi Polloi, Cockney Rejects, UK Subs etc...
Any band that have been around for almost 30 years will have numerous releases, you can check out some of 4 Past Midnight's (including new album Basttle Scars & Broken Hearts) over on Bandcamp : https://4pastmidnight.bandcamp.com/
The new album is available from Hedgerow Records and features 15 tracks of anthemic punk rock covering subjects such as lying politicians, failed relationships, life on tour and falling into depression as your life turns to shit. It's all very impressive stuff.
This is a rousing singalong called Let's Go.....

The Putz - When The World Ends
So the new Lillingtons album, Stella Sapiente, is set for release on October 13th. Any fan of old school pop punk will be eagerly counting down the days. To some, it may seem a long way off yet but don't despair! There's a killer old school pop punk album already out (though if the reports of bumper sales are anything to go by, you probably already know).
The Putz are the Indianapolis trio made up of Billy Putz (bass/lead vocals), Dougie Tangent (drums/backing vocals) and Patrick McVay (guitar/backing vocals) who've previously appeared on here a couple of times and who's releases include albums Hole In One & Knock It Off; eps Beach Bound & Cut The Shit and a split 7" with Horror Section, Eaten Back To Life and The Young Rochelles.
Now they return with a brand new album, Clinically Inane. As you would expect from the band, it's catchy as hell, dumb and lots of fun. Produced (and featuring occasional guest appearances by) Queers frontman Joe Queer plus keyboards by Cassie Oh, it's one of this years best releases. You can check it out, along with their earlier stuff, here : https://theputz.bandcamp.com/album/clinically-inane
Being a sucker for pop punk/sci fi crossovers, today's song is this tale of love amidst the destruction caused by an invasion by men from Mars. When The World Ends...

Tijuana Stranglers - Runaround Baby
Tijuana Stranglers are a bunch of Rock n Roll scumbags from Corvina, California who's line up features Zalez (vocals), Justin Carroll (lead guitar), Scotty Farris (rhythm guitar), Mario Silva (bass) and Dave (drums).

This is the lead track, it's called Runaround Baby....

Murdaball - Oi's Not Dead
Yesterday's update featured a band occupying a position near the top of the punk rock tree, today you're getting one that is swiftly climbing the branches, ascending towards those lofty peaks. Murdaball are a 5 piece from Newcastle On Tyne who formed in 2012 and who mix elements of street punk, oi and a dash of hardcore to produce fast and loud music that's "not for the faint hearted."
Veterans of various other bands down the years, they currently line up with Jimi (lead vocals), Dan (lead guitar), Wayne (rhythm guitar), Craig (bass) and Rob (drums). They're already very popular in their neck of the woods having supported pretty much every street punk and oi band that has passed through the North East and Scotland. Their recent crowded appearance at the Rebellion Festival in Blackpool saw them sell all their merchandise in just 20 minutes. That popularity will only continue to grow with the release of their second album, A Northern Powerhouse. It's the first release on their own Oi! Toon Records label and if you want to grab a copy, message them on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/Murdaball-488266994525741/
If you want to check out debut album, Twisted, you can find it on Bandcamp... https://murdaball.bandcamp.com/

Anti-Flag - Racists
You've possibly all heard today's song. It seems to have been posted on most punk news sites and that would normally be good enough reason not to post it here but to feature something a little more obscure instead. Two reasons it is featuring today, I think it's as good a time as any to join in the chorus of voices condemning racism (or fascism, sexism, homophobia or any other discrimination against people that you might percieve as being be different to yourself). I usually try to avoid bandwagons but sometimes you have to lend your voice. Secondly, it's a bloody good song.
I don't think I need to write an introductory paragraph on Anti-Flag, if you've been living in a cave for the last 20 plus years then look 'em up. What I will copy & paste is they statement they released following the recent violence in Charlottesville;
We stand in solidarity with those fighting racism and fascism in the streets of Charlottesville and beyond. We believe it is time for the removal of all monuments to the confederacy and the racism for which they stand. We must put these symbols of white supremacy into places where the proper context can be provided for what they actually are; outdated, backwards, and antithetical to what we believe the values of humanity should be. It is past time to have real conversations on systemic racism and America's history of it. There are museums memorializing the holocaust all across Europe while America continues to try to hide from its racist, murderous past and present.
This is Racists.....

Limp Wrist - They Tell Me
Limp Wrist formed in 1998 and are an American queercore punk band who play fast hardcore music. They're scattered across various parts of the U.S. so only gig and record occasionally but they recently got together to put out their first release in 9 years. The album is called Facades and you'll find it here : https://limpwrist.bandcamp.com/album/facades
The current line up of the band is Martin Sorrondeguy (vocals), Scott Moore (guitar), Andrew Martini (bass) and Paul Henry (drums).
They describe the album as "11 new trax of complete punk faggotry." It's angry, confrontational and really bloody good, or at least tracks 1 to 8 are. Once they've got you wound up tight and bouncing off the walls they do a complete u turn for the last 3 tracks and chill you back down again with 3 tracks of electro noodling you can groove out to.
This is one of the hard hitting songs, it's called They Tell Me....
en talk about my maleness
And how I tamper with the line
Fem fearing cock-suckers
(lame homosexual alphas who dislike women)
get away
Cuz Iain’t got the time
Norms talk about my tricks
And the many that I’ve had
No commitment to the man on the cross
Or those who follow his path.
Left Right, Left Right, they keep pushing!
Left Right, Left Right, they keep Pushing
They keep pushing the left to the right,
They talk to me about my speech
They talk to me about my smell
Extremists got rules for me everything
Boring squares go to hell.
Friends are angry with me
Cuz we don’t see eye to eye
On every single issue
So now they won’t give me time.
Left Right, Left Right, they keep pushing!
Left Right, Left Right, they keep Pushing
they keep pushing the left to the right,
Left Right, Left Right, they keep pushing!
Left Right,
They created a box
To squeeze all queers in
Their definitions have flattened us
Stay fucked and never go in.

The Hardknocks - Lion's Den
The Hardknocks are an oi band from Los Angeles who began life in 2010 and currently line up with Anthony Oi! (vocals), David Perez (guitar), Giovanni (guitar), Myke Evil (bass) and Raybeez (drums).
2014 saw the release through Vinyl4Bootboys Records of debut ep Confrontation. They followed this a year later with debut album Battle Scarred (available on Crowd Control Media) before returning earlier this year with the Angels & Demons ep. You can check out all these releases here : https://thehardknocks.bandcamp.com/
I played a song from Battle Scarred on yesterday's Just Some Punk Songs show (https://www.mixcloud.com/mick-fletcher/just-some-punk-songs-130817/) and it went down a storm with the chatroom folk so it's about time I posted a song from Angels & Demons on here.
As with all the best oi songs, this is hard hitting, gritty and anthemic. Come on in to The Lion's Den.....

Joe Zero - Cezanne With Kisses
Some of you may recall that throughout the year I've posted a number of songs from Joe Zero. Joe (aks Joe Moody) is the former frontman with golden age Belfast punk bands Victim and The Androids who is now based in Manchester making his own solo material. He's been teasing out a number of singles leading up to the release of his second solo album, The Eternity Man, and I'm pleased to bring you one of the highlights from that record today.
Following on from a successful acoustic set at the recent Rebellion Festival in Blackpool, Joe has released The Eternity Man on cd and digital and you can find it here : https://joezero.bandcamp.com/album/the-eternity-man
The album is an eclectic affair with songs ranging from the excellent upbeat buzzsaw punk of Rock 'n' Roll Wars through to sea shanties and tender love ballads. Joe's crafted an album that moves away from his punk roots but doesn't totally discard them. One man, his guitar and a poet's heart, the slow teasing build up has been well worth the wait.
The song I'm featuring below is one he wrote to for his partner and the love of his life, photographer Martine Fontaine. It's her work that graces the cover of the album her influence on him is apparent on several of it's songs. Case in point, this is Cezanne With Kisses.....
She was a mistake worth making
At least once or twice,
Or maybe a lifetime, who knows?
For she makes my spine tingle
Right down to the bone
She is the Muse of my Song...
Chorus. And I send her Cezanne Kisses
Bouncing off the Moon,
I send her Cezanne Kisses
(Ohh, Ohh, Ohh, Ohh, Ohh )
I'd let the Mountains tumble
Into the Sea
For Eternity, and her Love;
I'd let the Cosmos crumble
Into the Night
Until it starts Breathing again...
Chorus.
And I send her my Heart (Heart and Soul)
And I send her my Soul. (Heart and Soul)
And I send her my Life (Life and Love)
And I send her my Love. (Life and Love)

Suburban Homes - Unemployed
Another old favourite returns to the blog today, West Sussex lo-fi post punks Suburban Homes will soon be releasing a new single. I had heard rumours that they'd split up but happily that doesn't appear to be the case, the single will be called Unemployed and it's due next month on Total Punk Records.
Their previous releases have all been excellent and they're often compared to classic old post punk bands such as Desperate Bicycles, Mekons and Swell Maps. Those releases were 2014's D.I.Y. ep, 2015's Conformity in The UK single and 2016's ...Are Bored ep. You can (and should) check them all out here : https://thesuburbanhomes.bandcamp.com
Despite it being a couple of years since ...Are Bored, things don't seem to have gotten any better for their frustrated sounding singer. Unable to get a girlfriend due to his lack of ambition, the height of his existence is to play alone in his room. He's totally void, unemployed and feeling suicidal (though he's not even capable of managing to tie a decent knot). The medium is still tedium, he's bored of small talk and on the verge of a breakdown, welcome to suburbia in the UK 2017.
This is Unemployed.....

Louis Lingg and the Bombs - Grindstone
Louis Lingg And The Bombs have a new album out. The Paris band's 3rd full length is called Favela Ninja and vinyl versions will be available "sooner or later." Digitally you can find it name your price on Bandcamp https://louislinggandthebombs.bandcamp.com/album/favela-ninja
The first single from the album can be found below. As with the previous couple of times the band has appeared on this blog (Destroy Civilisation & I Wish I Was Dead), they've taken a seemingly down beat subject and turned it into an upbeat song. I asked Vocalist Josh what the single is about and he replied... "I wrote the song after two of my friends died at work (I was a teacher and it's quite a stressful profession!). The lyrics are strongly influenced by the anarchist writer Bob Black's The Abolition Of Work. That was three years ago when we started working on the album, scraping a few hours of recording here and there and always perfecting the songs... I quit my job and now I'm a full time music producer so I suppose it's a happy ending!"
Just one of the many pop punk molotovs from the album, this is Grindstone....

Why did I even wake up?
